Fixed RFID readers

A fixed RFID reader is permanently installed and connected to one or more antennas. It continuously reads tags passing through its field, with no human action, which is the whole point of RFID.

What the choice comes down to:

• Number of antenna ports, which determines the area covered
• Transmit power, governed by ETSI regulations in Europe
• Connectivity and API, to feed reads into the WMS or ERP

Eighty per cent of an RFID installation's performance comes down to antenna placement and tag choice, not the reader. Plan a site survey before buying.
