• Inkjet or toner technology, which sets durability and cost per label
• Water and UV resistance, decisive in food and outdoor use
• Cost per label at real ink coverage, not at cartridge price

Compare against the cost of stocked pre-printed labels, not against thermal. Past a handful of artwork variants, on-demand colour comes out cheaper.
